Hello Dad

When Scott calls at lunchtime David loves to tell him about his day. You can pick out a few words- "Anya" and "Baby" and if you can understand his joke let us know, we'd like to know what's so funny.

Here is another short clip where Scott broke the news to David that his new sibling is going to be a little sister instead of a brother.

Our latest summer outing was a trip to the beautiful Chicago Botanic Gardens. It is one of those places that it's hard to describe how pretty it is, it's something you just have to see in person.

Random Summer Happenings

After the hundreds of pictures that I have taken of David I finally explored the options on our camera and used a different setting. This is a major accomplishment for me. I guess I'm feeling adventurous since we've been staying inside so much this week trying to escape the heat. David loves wearing his "at". We lost his previous hat and this is his new one that he wears more inside than outside of the house.
Our hardwood floors aren't very comfortable to sit on so I made David this kid-size version of a bean bag chair. Sometimes he sits on it but mostly he likes to climb on it and throw it like a ball.

The extent of our 4th of July celebrations consisted of a parade and a short visit to our friends house for dinner. This picture is during the parade but as you can kind of tell David wasn't feeling very well and we spent the rest of the day trying to keep a fever down.

Museum of Science and Industry

A short while ago we made a visit to the Museum of Science and Industry, the largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere (Please note that these little facts are to try and convince all of you people to come and visit us). Among the tons of stuff to see there, we saw the only German submarine in America, U-505 captured in June of 1944. We also saw some M4 Enigma machines recovered from the U-boat (very cool engineering specimen).
David loves trains. Here is Engine 999, the first machine to break 100mph barrier in 1983.
Just over 80 years later in 1964 came this vehicle, the Spirit of America that broke the 500mph land speed record! As an aside, on its final run the parachute failed and it also gained the world record for the longest skid marks. It skidded for some five miles before stopping and would have gone farther had it not crashed into a pond while still skidding at some 200mph. Miraculously, the driver was uninjured.
Anyway, those are some fun facts we learned at the museum, but the real reason for this blog is to post pictures of David. He especially liked things that moved at the museum, one such example being the baby chicks in an exhibit about genetics.
The chicks seemed to like David as well. They especially congregated in front of him whenever he would bang on the glass.

Here is another video of David excited to see something moving. This time it was lights. He went crazy trying to chase them and it kind of made me sick videoing this but here it just the same.

Perseverance

Here is an example of how persevering David can be. He spent about half an hour trying to get inside of this box. This is only the last few struggles he had before success and his discovery that the box was just too small for him.
