Gingerbread Shoe
Last week our family participated in the local library's gingerbread house competition. The only requirement was that it had to have some kind of storybook theme. We did ours based on Mother Goose's "There was an Old Lady who lived in a shoe". The kids helped put the candy on and we had fun taking it to the library to be displayed.

It's almost Christmas!!
The kids and I took a train ride downtown to meet Scott at the big Christmas tree. We visited Macy's to see the window displays and also saw the nativity scene, along with lots of other festive sites.

Thanksgiving
Last week we celebrated a belated birthday with Grandma Salmon. We love visitors!
Next we took a little road trip down south to spend some time with cousins. The first picture is how we entertained them while getting Thanksgiving dinner ready (you can probably guess what they're doing). It was the only way to get them all to hold still for longer than a few seconds.

What David learned from Halloween
Last night over dinner David explained to us that when Moms die, we wrap them up in toilet paper.

costumes
Our costumes this year were completely unrelated, some have been in the works since last year and one was last minute, all had a different level of effort put in to them but we had fun dressing up. Our ward trunk-or-treat was fun also. Scott's "kick me" sign on his back brought him some unwanted attention but other than that the afternoon was a success.

Children are a blessing!
Whatever stresses children cause us they always make up for it in other ways. I love the moments when I have a better perspective and can enjoy the little moments.

I had my 20 week ultrasound this week which is always an exciting event. Earlier in the week before we went in David wanted to know if it was a boy or girl and declared that he wanted a boy (of course). I said that we didn't get to pick, that Heavenly Father chooses for us and he'd have to take it up with Him. A couple of days later we had the ultrasound and decided to leave it a surprise. Today we were riding in the car and David asked again if the baby was a boy or a girl. I said I don't know, we'll just have to wait and see. Then David said, "I thought you said Heavenly Father chooses, oh yeah! I think we should pray about it." Right then and there he began by saying, "Heavenly Father, thank Thee for the baby, please give us a baby brother."
What simple faith! How could you not love these little ones? We will all be happy with whatever Heavenly Father decides to send us.

Two Big Ones
We celebrated our little girl's 2nd birthday. She got to open her presents as soon as she woke up, hence the pj's. The little doll bed was made for me by my dad when I was little and I've been hiding it in the basement for the last couple of years until she was big enough to enjoy it. I think she's going to love it as much as I do.
She also received some new accessories for her doll, which you can see she takes good care of.

In the afternoon we had a little party with a couple of Lydia's friends. They enjoyed some ice cube painting and other toddler friendly games.

Camping trip
One of the highlights of this summer was a camping trip. We had a blast but learned a few lessons in the process.
Lesson 1. You must have long legs to reach the ground from these benches.
2. The view is fantastic from one of the most topographically diverse areas we have seen in Illinois. The peak of Starved Rock soars up to an elevation of 548 feet (the base is around 450 feet).
3. Coolers make great chairs for little people.
4. Don't let the toddlers be in charge of building shelter.
5. The first s'more is worthy of a picture.
6. Not everyone likes self portraits.
7. ALWAYS put EVERYTHING in a locked car at night. The raccoons made off with everything but the milk and our container of mayo.
8. Little kids don't like to sleep in, even on camping trips.
